The Odyssey of Self-Discovery and Entrepreneurship

I stumbled on the words of the richest man in China and he said: “If you put bananas and money in front of monkeys, monkeys will choose bananas because monkeys do not know that *Money can buy a lot of Bananas*”. These words struck me indeed because this is the reality of some youths of the 21st Century. When you offer Job and Business to some people, they would choose “Job” because they do not know that business can bring more money than wages.

Similarly, a business partner of Donald Trump (Robert Kiyosaki) who is an author of the bestselling book-RICH DAD, POOR DAD- also said:
“One of the reasons the poor get poorer and the rich get richer is because they are NOT TRAINED TO RECOGNIZE ENTREPRENEURSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. They spend too much time in school and what they have learnt in school, is to WORK FOR WAGES instead of MONEY WORKING FOR THEM.”

Orderliness and Crowd Control Should be a Lifestyle…
Profit is better than Wages, for Wages can make you a living but Profits can bring you a Fortune. Everyone should be “Thinking Investment” and stop fighting over increments of salaries because it won’t still be enough.

An Acting DVC Academic and a professor at a new university in Kenya said these words to freshmen and women during their orientation. He said;
“Academic excellence is overrated! Being top of your class does not necessarily guarantee that you will be at the top of life. You could graduate as the best student in Finance but it doesn’t mean you will make more money than everybody else. The best graduating Law student does not necessarily become the best lawyer. The fact is, life requires more than the ability to understand a concept, memorize it and reproduce it in an exam.”

He continued;

“School rewards people for their memory, Life rewards people for their imagination.
School rewards caution, life rewards daring.
School hails those who live by the rules, Life exalts those who break the rules and set new ones.”
Yeah! Getting educated and passing through the 4-walls of a High Institution is great achievement but don’t sacrifice every other dreams and passions you’ve have on the altar of First Class. Don’t limit yourself to the classroom. Do something practical; take up leadership position, start a business- even if you fail, it’s a better Entrepreneurship lesson for you. Join or start a good club, contest an election- even if you lose, it will teach you something in politics that Political Science classes will not teach you. Every day of your life is an opportunity for you to learn something new and add value to yourself. Attend seminars, read books outside the scope of your field.

Do something you believe in! most especially believe in yourself and your dreams- “do you”. One mistake I made as a student is sacrificing other passions I had in life to become an “excellent student” instead of striving to become an “excellent person” in general. Now I’m fixing the reality puzzles one after the other which I wished I’d started earlier.
Therefore, I urge you to step out of your cocoons, try out those business ideas. you wouldn’t know how successful you can be in that business if you don’t explore it. Try some thing new; try politics, try farming, try businesses, acquire new skills and diversify your income. “Entrepreneurship is the salt of life” share this message with especially youths of this 21st Century.

THE MESSAGE OF THE HON. SPEAKER OF NDIGBO YOUTH PARLIAMENT (NYP), RT. HON. RIKKI CHINEDU NWAJIOFOR, ON ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY.

Armed Forces Remembrance Day; The Heroes of Our Land!
“The soldier above all others prays for peace, for it is the soldier who must suffer and bear the deepest wounds and scars of war.”
—Douglas MacArthur.
“Only a life lived for others is a life worthwhile”, opines Albert Einstein. Suffice it to say that the spirit cum the zeal to serve selflessly and pour out oneself profusely in service, for the good of “a neighbor” and betterment of the nation at large, is a worthwhile life. Such a life depicts a Patriot and a Nationalist.
Today, the 15th day of January has been dedicated as a day we remember and pay homage to the selfless and unquantifiable sacrifices our armed forces made and still make for us as individuals and for the nation at large. Today is a day to honour all those brave Men and Women who have served or are still serving their country with bravery, dedication and self-sacrifice.
Yes, they put up selfless sacrifices for us; keeping awake that we might sleep and giving their lives that we might not lose all the things we love. As we sleep peacefully on our beds, our “Gallant Men and Valiant Women” stand on guard, ready to give their lives for our freedom. They keep awake in the bush, in cold weather, on high sea, to make sure we sleep and snore peacefully. They are separated from their families and loved ones so we can be united with ours. They lay down their lives that we might live.
As a country, they give up themselves that we can be united and have our sovereignty upheld. According to Barrack Obama, “the soldier’s courage and sacrifice is full of glory, expressing devotion to country, to cause, to comrades in arms.” In all these their invaluable sacrifices, we need to appreciate them. We need to let them know that we are grateful. Buttressing this further, Harry S. Truman asserts; “our debt to the Heroic men and Valliant women in the service of our country can never be repaid. They have earned our undying gratitude. We will never forget their sacrifices.”
Yes, we should never forget their unflinching and unwavering loyalty and love for our beloved nation; we should never forget their unquantifiable sacrifices.
An epitaph on a soldier’s grave reads:
I did my duty,
I paid the supreme price,
I pray you’ll remember,
My sacrifice.
My life was short,
I did my best.
God grant me peace,
In my eternal rest.
What a heart-rending epitaph! Yes, they wish that we forget not their sacrifices. “The labours and sacrifices of our Heroes past shall never be in vain”! Let us remember to extend helping hands to their widows, widowers, bereaved siblings and orphaned children. They are in that condition today because their loved ones laid down their lives that we might enjoy the company of our own loved ones.
May God strengthen and bless all our military men, comfort the families of those who lost their lives for our sake and grant blissful rest to our departed Heroes. We are proud of you!!!
“A true Soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him”.
G.K. Chesterton.
