FCT Water Board: AUPCTRE Union Demands Engr. Aliyu Nahuce Steps Down



The Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE) demands Engr. Aliyu Nahuce steps down from his position as the General Manager of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Water Board.

The members of the AUPCTRE Union had a peaceful Picketing over the pending issues between the General Manager, Engr. Aliyu Nahuce and the FCT Waterboard. Among the union members were; the Chairman of the AUPCTRE Union ‘Aliyu Mahadum’, the Vice President of FCT Council, ‘Nuhu Shehu’, the National Board member, ‘Comrade Akpan Godwin’, the National Women Leader/Treasurer, ‘Comfort Okegbo’ and other representatives from various civil society organizations.

The Chairman of AUPCTRE Union, Aliyu Mahadum expressed the concerns of the Union over the prevailing circumstances which has warranted the picketing of AUPCTRE Union. He stated the fact that the Engr. Aliyu Nahuce who is now the General Manager of the FCT Waterboard has been in service since October 1983 and as such he’s more than 35 years in Civil Service which means he is overdue for retirement yet illegally occupying that position. The attention of the FCT authorities has been drawn to this situation but it was considered insignificant.

According to the investigation concluded on Nahuce over fraud by the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) and base on the overwhelming evidence recovered after 18 months of investigation, Engr. Aliyu Nahuce is due to refund 1.75 million from a single contract he executed.

Aliyu Mahadum stated that Engr, Nahuce was arraigned on the 9th of November,2019 and by law he is not permitted to retain his position in the office. Nahuce who has a case in the Federal High Court, Abuja also appealed to the Industrial court over the circumstances surrounding his employment status and he has been granted court hearing on two occasions which was finally adjourned to April 1st.

The Vice President of FCT Council, ‘Nuhu Shehu’ has declared the intention to give a 21 days formal notice of strike for the FCT Water Board and if the FCT Authorities doesn’t grant them their request, there would shutdown of water supply in Abuja.

I am not a civil servant, says new NANS President KP

Comrade Asefon Sunday, the newly elected President of the National Association of Nigeria Student (NANS) had debunked rumors trending on Social media that he was a civil servant, aged 45 years.

Sunday made the clarification in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Abuja.

According to Sunday, he was born on June 12, 1984 and was never under any government or organisation employment

He also denied that life was lost during the just concluded NANS election.

He explained that despite effort by some cult group to invade the venue of the election to cause crisis, the combine effort of the Department of State Security Service DSS and the Nigeria Police Force were able to ensure that the election went smoothly till the end.

Sunday pledged to return the NANS back to its original place of pride as a campus based Students organization with a promise to effect a radical change in the public perception of the organization.

“We will work assiduously towards achieving the objectives of the founding fathers of the association, which is to ensure that the aspirations of Nigerian students are achieved and their interests protected Asefon Said

Sunday also assured the Nigeria students of a robust and engaging NANS with all stakeholders for the benefit of students and educational development under his leadership.

NAN reports that Sunday is a Post Graduate student of Public Sector Governance and Administration from Ekiti State University.

He was declared winner at the end of the NANS Convention held today at area 10 parade ground Abuja After scoring a total of 155 votes against his closest rival Mr Ladoja who scored 100 votes.

United Nations (UN) has revealed that not less than 110 civilians were killed by Boko Haram in the attack on a rice field in Borno State.

A statement by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, Mr. Edward Kallon on Sunday while describing the attack as horrifying, said not less than 110 people were killed with many other persons injured in one the deadliest attack by the terrorist group, who have laid siege on the Northeast for over a decade.

Kallon said: “I am outraged and horrified by the gruesome attack against civilians carried out by non-state armed groups in villages near Borno State capital Maiduguri.

“At least 110 civilians were ruthlessly killed and many others were wounded in this attack.”

He disclosed that: “In early afternoon of 28 November, armed men on motorcycles led a brutal attack on civilian men and women who were harvesting their fields in Koshobe and other rural communities in Jere Local Government Area. Reports we are receiving are indicating these innocent farmers were the victims of this callous violence.”

Kallon, while condoling with the government and people of Nigeria, said: “I extend my sincere condolences to the families of the civilians who lost their lives in this atrocious attack. I also wish a speedy recovery to those who were wounded in the incident.”

Kallon also lamented that several women may have been kidnapped in the attack.

He said: “We have also received reports that several women may have been kidnapped. I call for their immediate release and return to safety.”

He added that: “My thoughts are also with the rural communities in the area, who are shocked by the brutality of yesterday’s (Saturday’s) attack and fear for their safety.”

He said: “The entire UN system and the humanitarian community working to provide life-saving and development assistance to the most vulnerable in Borno State is outraged by the incident. Such direct attacks against innocent civilians jeopardize the ability for the most vulnerable people to survive the adversity they are facing, and which we are striving to alleviate.”

He said: “The incident is the most violent direct attack against innocent civilians this year. I call for the perpetrators of this heinous and senseless act to be brought to justice.”

He lamented that: “It is unfortunately one of too many such attacks targeting farmers, fishermen and families who are trying to recover some livelihood opportunity after over a decade of conflict.”

He said: “I strongly condemn this attack and any act of violence against innocent civilians and I firmly urge all actors on the ground to respect international laws and humanity.”

The statement said: “Rural communities in Borno State are facing untold hardships. Helping them to farm land and rebuild livelihoods are amongst our priorities and the only way to avoid the looming food crisis in Borno State. They and all other civilians need to be protected and spared from any kind of violence.”

It noted that: “Innocent women, children and men desperately need food and other support and assistance, particularly at a time when we are recording some of the highest levels of food insecurity in Borno State. We owe to do our utmost to help them survive these difficult times.”
