Islamic group petitions IGP over movie portraying them as terrorists, Pete Edochie, others in trouble

Upcoming Nollywood movie, ‘Fatal Arrogance’ starring Pete EdochieDestiny Etiko, has attracted the wrath of the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

Islamic group petitions IGP

According to the Islamic group, the movie produced and directed by Anosike Kingsley Orji depicts their movement as a terrorist organisation bent on eradicating the Nigerian State.

The movie plot revolves around the incident between the Shiite Sect and the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai in Kaduna. The incident led to the killing of over 1,000 members of the sect including children of its leader Sheik El-Zakzaky.

Recall that Zakzaky himself and his wife have been in prison since the incident while the Kaduna State government proscribed the group. This has been the basis for the deadly protests by members of the sect in Abuja and Kaduna, calling for the release of their leader and his wife.

The new Nollywood movie portrayed men of the Nigerian Army who carried out the massacre of the Shiite members, sparking outrage from members of the group who petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu as well as the National Film and Video Censors Board.

The group also noted that the movie’s storyline is not a coincidence as its title was gotten from a book “Fatal Arrogance” written by Kuanum Terrence and both convey same plot.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 10th September, the President of the Media forum for the Shiite group, Ibrahim Musa alleged that the movie which was capable of causing disunity in the country was being sponsored by the Nigerian Army.

Excerpts from the statement read…

“The Islamic Movement in Nigeria wishes to call upon the respected professionals of Nollywood to address this issue immediately.

“If film producers are not careful, some disgruntled elements in governance will make them side with the oppressors against the oppressed as the film “Fatal Arrogance” is meant to achieve. Genocide is involved here; any move to justify the brutal and inhuman Zaria genocide of December 2015 is an affront on the Rome Status of the International Criminal Court.

“Evidently, for every Nigerian, these clips are meant to disparage the peaceful movement and portray it to the world as a violent armed movement.

Also, the movie on the pipeline has the same title as Kuanum Terrence’s book that died on its arrival, where he blamed the victims of terror for being their own nemesis. He had launched what he called a book titled ‘Fatal Arrogance: How El-Zakzaky Hypnotised IMN Members into Killing Themselves while Protecting Him’. As ridiculous as the name may sound, the content is not far from that too.

The IMN stated that the movie was capable of creating conflicts and discord in an already divided country.

“We want the world, Nigerians in particular, to bear witness that this film, ‘Fatal Arrogance’, can be used in creating conflicts among our diverse communities. It is a propaganda machine that can deceive millions, and it’s also an easy way to use for character assassination.”

“It can be used to distort the truth, free criminals and blame the victims as well as making the bad guys the good guys. We, therefore, call on well-meaning Nigerians to put pressure on the producers of that abominable film to stop it.”

Omah Lay shares sad experience in Uganda after his release

Nigerian singer, Omah Lay has shared his sad experience in Uganda and how he was arrested and treated like a common thief.

Recall earlier this month, Omah was arrested for violating the COVID-19 rules in Uganda.

He explained to his Ugandan fans that he never intended to put them in harms way, and whatever action he took while in Uganda, was in the presence of the Ugandan Police.

He showed appreciation to his mom, fans and celebrities for showing him love during his arrest and making sure that he returns safely.

In his words;

“The past few days have been some of the toughest of my life that I wouldn’t wish them on anyone. Out in a new country with some beautiful people, the next thing I’m being treated like a common thief.

First off I want to thank all the amazing fans that came out to see me in Uganda, the smiles on your happy faces that evening would be one of my happiest memories. Also I wanna clarify that putting you in harms way was never my intentions!

Before we came out to Uganda, the show promoters confirmed and proved to us they’d secured all the clearances which of course included Covid 19 compliance….At that point, my sole obligation became to make myself available to be taken to the venue and entertain, which I did in the full glance and protection of the Ugandan police.

Secondly, to my mom, my family, my team, my fans, friends that I caused sleepless nights waiting and praying for me, I apologize for putting you through all that;…on the other hand I can’t thank you enough, I damned near lost my mind but your prayers and messages kept me going! Thank you so much!

Finally, big THANK YOU to everyone for your efforts, prayers, messages, tweets (Damn! Y’all went hard!).Big shout out to the musicians, the celebrities, fans (Again and again🙏🏾), my family, my friends, my Label, The Nigerian Mission in Uganda, The Presidency, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Madam Abike. Thank you all so much!I have put this behind me and back to what I know how to do best. One Africa ✊🏿Omah is home! 🤘🏾 Love,Omah 💜”.

Marsai Martin Emerges the youngest Hollywood Executive Producer, breaking the Guinness World Record

Marsai Martin, 16, Emerges the youngest Hollywood Executive Producer, breaking the Guinness World Record for the youngest Hollywood Executive Producer.

She was only 14 years old when she executively produced the 2019 film “Little,” in which she also starred alongside Regina Hall and Issa Rae.

Marsai is Known for her role in the hit show Blackish, Marsai Martin (USA) has now earned the Guinness World Records title for youngest Hollywood executive producer for her breakout film Little (USA).

The idea for the movie began in her living room where she first brought the idea to her parents.

After workshopping the concept Martin took her proposal to Blackish creator, Kenya Barris, and in her own words, “the rest was history”.

“It feels crazy, honestly,” Martin said in a video of her certificate presentation. “A world record? That’s insane.”

Although Marsai is now 16 years old, she technically broke the record in 2019 but she wasn’t presented with this award and officially declared a record-breaker by Guinness until now.

“To be able to create a film, to star in it and be with your favourite stars, and actually seeing that entire experience was so amazing,” – Masai Martin said during the certificate presentation.

Marsai, who came to fame starring as Dianne on “Black-ish”, reportedly pitched the idea for the film herself to “Black-ish” producer Kenya Barris when she was 10.

After the pitch was accepted, Martin signed a deal with Universal Pictures, developing scripted projects, last year.

The record makes sure to note that she was only 14 and 241 days old when “Little” was released.

Martin will appear in the 2021 edition of the physical Guinness World Records book and in the meantime, her production company, Genius Productions, is currently working on another film, “StepMonster.”
