Chadwick Aaron Boseman ‘Black Panther actor’ Dies of Cancer

“Black Panther” film star Chadwick Boseman, an actor whose work celebrated African-American pioneers and culture, has died at age 43 after a four-year battle with colon cancer, according to an announcement posted on Friday to his social media accounts.

Boseman, a native of South Carolina who began his screen career in episodes of television dramas such as “Third Watch,” “Law & Order” and “ER,” passed away at his home, with his wife and family at his side, the statement on Twitter and Facebook said. It did not specify when he died. He resided in Los Angeles.

Boseman made his feature film debut with a small part in the 2008 sports biopic “The Express,” a drama based on the life of college football hero Ernie Davis, the first Black player to win the Heisman trophy.

He went on to star as a number of other real-life characters famed for breaking America’s racial barriers, including soul singer James Brown in “Get on Up,” Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in “Marshall,” and baseball pioneer Jackie Robinson in “42.”

But the actor’s most memorable role was his performance as T’Challa, king of the fictional, futuristic African kingdom of Wakanda and the crime fighter known as Black Panther, in the first major studio superhero movie featuring a predominantly African-American cast.

Embraced by global audiences, “Black Panther” became the second highest grossing movie at box offices worldwide in 2018, heralded for its vibrant celebration of African culture and applauded as a milestone for racial diversity in Hollywood.

The film was nominated for six Oscars, including best picture. It won three Academy Awards – in the best original score, best costume design and best production design categories. It also won the top Screen Actors Guild award that year for best movie ensemble.

Boseman originated the Black Panther film role two years earlier in Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” and reprised the part twice more in 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War” and 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame.”

In June, Boseman joined more than 300 Black actors and filmmakers who signed an open letter urging Hollywood to steer away from entertainment glorifying police brutality and corruption and to invest in anti-racist content.

The letter was written in the midst of a cultural and political reckoning with systematic racism in the United States in the wake of the George Floyd death in Minneapolis.

Tributes and expressions of shock poured in on Twitter from fans and fellow Hollywood figures, including Marvel film co-stars Mark Ruffalo (the Incredible Hulk) and Chris Evans (Captain America).

The Twitter-Facebook statement said Boseman was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in 2016, an illness that progressed ultimately to stage 4 and went publicly undisclosed until his death, though he had grown noticeably thin in recent public appearances and social media posts.

“We never know what people are enduring,” Bernice King, the daughter of the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr., wrote on Twitter in a salute to the actor. “Humans … we are wonders. Thank you, Chadwick, for gifting us with your greatness in the midst of a painful struggle.”

Laycon’s SC Genotype: Twitter user Reveals a confirmation Chat

A Twitter user identified as ‘The Matchmaker’ has shared his conversation with BBNaija’s Laycon in 2017.

This chat reveals more about BBNaija Laycon’s SC genotype. In his chat, Laycon had revealed to the Twitter user that he is SC. The BBNaija star went on to educate The Matchmaker about genotype .

This was after the musician-housemate revealed his genotype while discussing with his fellow housemates.

In the post by the matchmaker, Laycon approached the Twitter user for matchmaking in 2017 but he ended up educating him about his SC genotype.

The Matchmaker did not delete his conversation with the BBNaija star as he shared it to also educate others on what SC genotype really means.

The chat read:

“SC is a genotype, although pretty rare. The most common genotypes are the AA, AS, SS genotypes but there are also the AC, SC, and CC genotype. All AA, AC, AS are strong genotype but SS, SC, and CC arent… They’re poor.

“However, SS is worse. I don’t know much about CC since I haven’t had any reason to find out more about it.

But SC is more like a carrier of Sickle Cell. But in most of them, the sickle cell are dormant, unlike SS where they are active.

Most SC people rarely experience the symptoms that SS people experience. However, close to 20 per cent of SC individuals experience it.

I’m not one of those 20 percent. I’m perfectly healthy and I have never experienced any symptoms of sickle cell neither have I been treated for it.”

Fatal Arrogance: Islamic group petitions IGP over movie portraying them as terrorists, Pete Edochie, others in trouble

Islamic group petitions IGP over movie portraying them as terrorists, Pete Edochie, others in trouble

Upcoming Nollywood movie, ‘Fatal Arrogance’ starring Pete EdochieDestiny Etiko, has attracted the wrath of the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN).

Islamic group petitions IGP

According to the Islamic group, the movie produced and directed by Anosike Kingsley Orji depicts their movement as a terrorist organisation bent on eradicating the Nigerian State.

The movie plot revolves around the incident between the Shiite Sect and the convoy of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai in Kaduna. The incident led to the killing of over 1,000 members of the sect including children of its leader Sheik El-Zakzaky.

Recall that Zakzaky himself and his wife have been in prison since the incident while the Kaduna State government proscribed the group. This has been the basis for the deadly protests by members of the sect in Abuja and Kaduna, calling for the release of their leader and his wife.

The new Nollywood movie portrayed men of the Nigerian Army who carried out the massacre of the Shiite members, sparking outrage from members of the group who petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu as well as the National Film and Video Censors Board.

The group also noted that the movie’s storyline is not a coincidence as its title was gotten from a book “Fatal Arrogance” written by Kuanum Terrence and both convey same plot.

In a statement issued on Thursday, 10th September, the President of the Media forum for the Shiite group, Ibrahim Musa alleged that the movie which was capable of causing disunity in the country was being sponsored by the Nigerian Army.

Excerpts from the statement read…

“The Islamic Movement in Nigeria wishes to call upon the respected professionals of Nollywood to address this issue immediately.

“If film producers are not careful, some disgruntled elements in governance will make them side with the oppressors against the oppressed as the film “Fatal Arrogance” is meant to achieve. Genocide is involved here; any move to justify the brutal and inhuman Zaria genocide of December 2015 is an affront on the Rome Status of the International Criminal Court.

“Evidently, for every Nigerian, these clips are meant to disparage the peaceful movement and portray it to the world as a violent armed movement.

Also, the movie on the pipeline has the same title as Kuanum Terrence’s book that died on its arrival, where he blamed the victims of terror for being their own nemesis. He had launched what he called a book titled ‘Fatal Arrogance: How El-Zakzaky Hypnotised IMN Members into Killing Themselves while Protecting Him’. As ridiculous as the name may sound, the content is not far from that too.

The IMN stated that the movie was capable of creating conflicts and discord in an already divided country.

“We want the world, Nigerians in particular, to bear witness that this film, ‘Fatal Arrogance’, can be used in creating conflicts among our diverse communities. It is a propaganda machine that can deceive millions, and it’s also an easy way to use for character assassination.”

“It can be used to distort the truth, free criminals and blame the victims as well as making the bad guys the good guys. We, therefore, call on well-meaning Nigerians to put pressure on the producers of that abominable film to stop it.”
